Table tennis

St James Institute is home to Merton Table Tennis club, a long-established club with a rich history spanning more than seven decades. With over 100 members, the club is one of the largest in the Bournemouth area and currently has ten representative teams in the Bournemouth Table Tennis League. from division four up to the Premier, as well as three team playing in the Bournemouth Pairs League.

Whether you are a total beginner, a serious competition player, returning to the sport after a break, want to get a bit of exercise, are interested in trying something new, or just want to meet new people, you will be welcome at our club.

Merton Table Tennis club meet in the small hall, which can accommodate up to four tables for practice, or two for competition. The small hall at St James is a high-quality facility for table tennis play, meeting Table Tennis England’s specifications in terms of wall colour, non-slip sport surface flooring and lighting that has been upgraded and configured especially for table tennis.

Each Spring, the club holds its own competitions, with something for everyone. Singles, Doubles, Handicap and Hardbat events, across all age groups. Visit the Merton Table Tennis website for latest news and information or keep an eye on the St James news feed.

There are also special social competitions which allows all fully paid members to participate in a friendly atmosphere and meet members of the various groups run by the Merton club.


Christmas Doubles Competition  – Result (Sunday 15th December 2019)

On Sunday the 15th December John Malins and Terri Clark won the final in the Christmas Doubles Competition, starting at 10am and finishing at 3pm with 32 Members taking part and refreshments throughout the day.
